A patient at Mount Carmel Hosptial was given a one-year jail term suspended for two years after he admitted to assaulting and slightly injuring a police constable who was on duty at the hospital.
The 28-year-old man, of Palestinian origin, pleaded guilty to threatening, assaulting and slightly injuring PC Terry James Mallia, damaging his uniform and ignoring his orders in Ward 8B on September 21 at about 6.45 p.m. Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard how the man suffered from mental health problems and had even tried to harm himself.
The name of the man is not being published due to his condition.
Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.
Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the man.
