Irish folk trio the River Of Gems will give a performance as part of the Historic Cities Festival at the Vilhena Palace in Mdina tomorrow at 7.30 p.m.

The trio combine Irish dance tunes with contemporary compositions drawing on the Irish musical tradition.

They will be travelling with the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, who will be on a state visit to Malta between tomorrow and Saturday. Peter Browne, who plays the Irish pipes and wooden flute, has featured as a soloist with Ireland's National Symphony Orchestra and National Concert Orchestra while violinist Brenda McCann has won All-Ireland Championship titles and holds a BA in Music from Trinity College Dublin. Tristran Rosenstock, who plays the Irish drum, completed his studies in Irish and Old Irish at Trinity College in Dublin.

The concert is open to the public and entrance is free.
