Rabat mayor Frank Fabri condemned the vandalism at the Abbatija tad-Dejr catacombs in Rabat.

Mr Fabri said that although the site does not fall under the responsibility of the council, it would just the same take the necessary measures to protect it. It is also considering the installation of a CCTV system to cover the area. The Abbatija tad-Dejr falls under the responsibility of Heritage Malta. The council has urged residents to collaborate with it by reporting acts of vandalism.

Vandals gained access into the site by removing some bricks from the right side of the entrance gate and sprayed black graffitti. Luckily, these was sprayed on concrete bricks forming part of the access gate and not on the archaeological site itself.
