Sean O' hUiginn and Rodney Lopez Clemente presented their diplomatic credentials to President Eddie Fenech Adami as the new ambassadors of Ireland and Cuba to Malta yesterday.

The ceremonies took place in the Ambassadors' Room at the Palace, Valletta.

Mr O' hUiginn (picture) was posted in the Consulate General of Ireland in New York in 1980 as Consul General and was appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in 1983.

Other high-ranking positions followed, including Ambassador to Denmark and Iceland in 1990, Ambassador to the US in 1997 and to Germany in 2002.

Mr Lopez Clemente served in various countries, and his past appointments have included Ambassador to Germany and to the United Kingdom.

His last post was that of Ambassador to the United Nations.
