Passengers travelling to Corfu had to endure a frustrating long wait yesterday as their flight was delayed by 12 hours due to "extreme weather conditions" at the Greek island.
Several passengers contacted The Times to complain that they were still at the airport at 2 p.m. when the flight was meant to take off at 3.45 a.m. and had no idea at what time they were due to leave, though they had been informed earlier about the situation.
The captain told passengers that low clouds at the airport in Corfu made landing dangerous. A spokesman for Air Malta said the airline would not take any chances with passenger safety and the flight was delayed until the weather over Corfu cleared.
The passengers were given light refreshments and a meal at noon and were not charged for drinks during the flight.
