The Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday denied the Labour Party's allegation that it had amended regulations governing the Local Councils Association on the eve of the election without consultation.

The MLP said that as a result of the amendments, the minister had the discretion to choose the representatives taking part in international forums, such as the Council of Europe.

However, the government said the minister appointed the association's delegations for the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe before the amendments were made. It insisted, the minister had always followed the criteria established in the statute of the congress.
