Parliament yesterday expressed its condolences following the passing away of former Nationalist minister Manuel Bonnici and former Labour MP Paul Carachi during the summer.
Tonio Borg, Leader of the House, and Opposition Leader Alfred Sant both praised Dr Bonnici, an MP in five legislatures, for the correct way in which he conducted himself. Dr Borg also highlighting the important work done by Dr Bonnici, as minister, to bring about trade liberalisation.
Mr Carachi, a journalist and MP for 10 years, was remembered as an energetic man who always spoke his mind, even in old age, and who always remained true to the Labour Party, even though he once sought to have a seat in the middle of the House of Representative, a tactic used to draw attention to a case where he felt an injustice was being committed.
The Speaker associated himself wth the views expressed by both sides of the House.
