A 22-year-old hunter who works as a policeman has been charged with the manslaughter of his 50-year-old uncle, who died from gunshot wounds while he worked in a field as his nephew was hunting nearby.

Kevin Fenech from Zejtun was yesterday charged with negligently causing the death of Angelo Seychell after pellets fired from his shotgun fatally wounded Mr Seychell in Zejtun at around 7.15 a.m. on Saturday.

Mr Fenech stared blankly as the charges were read out to him.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti criticised the prosecuting officers - police inspectors Carmelo Bartolo and Chris Pullicino - for charging the accused under arrest and granted bail to Mr Fenech.

The court also heard that Mr Fenech collaborated with the police and admitted that he had been on the scene when the incident happened and that the shot had been fired from his shotgun.

The case is expected to continue on Wednesday. Lawyers Malcolm Mifsud, John Bonello and Cedric Mifsud appeared for the accused.
