Welsh trap shooters take early lead

The European Commonwealth Championships resumed yesterday at the Bidnija ranges with the opening three rounds of the Trap competition.
After the first 75 clays, the top three positions are all occupied by Welsh shooters. Ian Belcher is leading the way with 73, just one better than second-placed Michael Wixey. Kevin Cowles is currently in third place with 70.
The next three places in the table are all occupied by Maltese shooters with Justin Attard in fourth spot with 69 ahead of Frans Pace (68) and George Cassar (67).
In the team competition, Wales are occupying top spot after totaling 277. Malta are second with 270 ahead of Gibraltar who hit just 224.
Concurrently with the Commonwealth Championships, a Trap Grand Prix is also being organised by the Malta Shooting Federation where several local shooters are taking part, including William Chetcuti. The latter yesterday was ninth overall after hitting 67 clays.
The two competitions resume today when the participating shooters will be involved in the final two rounds of 25 clays each, with the top six progressing to the final barrage.
