This summer we formed part of a group of 15-16 year old students who waited anxiously for our trip to London.

We were 30 people in all - 26 students from St Joseph School Blata l-Bajda, Stella Maris Collage, Gzira and St Paul's Missionary Collage, Rabat and four teachers - Elton Micallef, Doreen Mizzi, Christopher Schembri and Audrey Schembri - some of whom are members of the Science on Stage Committee.

The aim of Science On Stage is to promote good teaching methods of science, with the aim of encouraging students to take up science subjects.

During our six-day trip, we visited a number of cultural places including the London Zoo and the aquarium. We also went to the Science Museum, the British Museum and the Natural History Museum, where we saw many interesting artefacts - from skeletons of pre-historic dinosaurs to modern high-tech devices.

Another place of interest was Benjamin Franklin House, where we had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see what the successful inventor contributed to help facilitate our lives today. These include bifocals and the lightning rod, which are included in our examination syllabus.

On the fifth day we visited the JET Nuclear Research Facility in Culhamand and learned that we were the first Maltese to set foot in there. This was a memorable experience which should not be missed!

There was also enough free time to do some shopping in Oxford Street. On our last day we had the opportunity to get a bird's eye view of the metropolis from the London Eye and to go on a relaxing cruise on the River Thames.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Science on Stage Committee and the patient teachers who accompanied us and made this visit possible. However, we would like to ask them one question: "Where will be going next year?".
