More port workers yesterday terminated their membership at the General Workers' Union and joined the Malta Dockers Union (MDU).

A group of tally clerks handed in their new membership forms to the Director of Industrial Relations and Employment and their formal resignations from the GWU, the MDU said. The MDU said that it was requesting recognition from the Malta Maritime Authority to be able to negotiate on behalf of the tally clerks.

Apart from these clerks, another group of 23 licensed port workers resigned from the GWU yesterday, the MDU added.

The Malta Dockers' Union was registered earlier this month with 312 port workers who resigned from the GWU.
