Five charged with jet fuel theft

Four Enemalta employees and an 18-year-old were charged yesterday with the theft of fuel from Enemalta's Has Saptan stores.

The employees, Emanuel Borg, 60, Joseph Farrugia, 52, Michael Attard, 43 and Carmel Gatt, 43, were accused of allowing bowsers to fill up with the corporation's fuel.

The youngster, Sean Abela, of Zejtun, was alleged to be one of the bowser drivers.

The amount of fuel stolen was not disclosed.

The accused pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima released them under house arrest against a personal guarantee of Lm5,000.

Inspectors Raymond Cassar and Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted while lawyers Jason Azzopardi, Mathew Brincat, Edward Gatt and Gianella Caruana Curran appeared for the accused.
