Jailed for bar burglary

A Fgura man was yesterday jailed for 18 months for burgling a bar and causing extensive damage when he rummaged through the place.

Apart from stealing cash and other items from Oribietto Saloon, in Zabbar, Stephen Zahra, 38, helped himself to alcohol, cigarettes and cake and broke several bottles and furniture, Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard.

When the owner of the establishment found it in this state, on April 11, 1997, he immediately filed a police report.

Forensic experts lifted finger prints from the burgled saloon and, eventually, the prints were compared to the finger prints of Mr Zahra. The result was a match.

Police Inspectors Walter Spiteri and Carmelo Bartolo prosecuted.
