The Pope and Islam (3)

The Pope merely quoted the opinion of a Byzantine Emperor in an argument to show that coercion is unreasonable in religion: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." Ironically, the violent reaction to the Pope's speech from some quarters of the Islamic world goes to show that there is some truth to that statement.
