Meanwhile, the league programme is due to start today week at the same venue. Sta Venera Lightnings and newcomers Mgarr United meet in the league's opening match at 8.15 p.m.
There are eight teams competing in the women's national league, which is expected to generate significant interest among the participants and their supporters. The teams, representing a fairly extensive cross-section of localities around the island, are Birkirkara, Hibernians, Melita, Mgarr, Mosta, Rabat, Sliema Raiders (formerly Raiders) and Sta Venera.
