Italian champions Inter failed to capitalise on a series of chances and needed a late own goal to draw 1-1 with Sampdoria in Serie A last night.

Inter were punished for lacking the finishing touch when Francesco Flachi put Sampdoria ahead with a 47th minute penalty.

They continued to dominate the game but had to wait until nine minutes from time before Sampdoria midfielder Massimo Bonanni headed the ball into his own net from a corner.

The draw, which put Inter top with four points from two matches this season, seemed an unlikely result as the Milan club were denied time and again by Sampdoria goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi.

Earlier yesterday, Reggina striker Rolando Bianchi continued his excellent start to the season by scoring in stoppage time to earn a 2-1 home win over Cagliari.

The 23-year-old, who struck a hat-trick in Reggina's 4-3 defeat by Palermo in the first round of matches last week, is the division's leading scorer.

Juventus notch first win in Serie B

Juventus notched their first win in Serie B when goals by David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero gave them a 2-1 victory over Vicenza yesterday.

The result put Juventus, who were ordered by a sports tribunal to start this season in the second division on minus 17 points for their part in a match-fixing scandal, on minus 13, 19 points off the lead after two matches.

It also represented a winning return to Turin's Stadio Olimpico, formerly the Stadio Comunale, where the club played until moving to the Stadio delle Alpi after the 1990 World Cup.
