The Billion Faces: One Family exhibition, which was inaugurated at the Upper Barracca Gardens on Friday, presents large format photos of families from around the world, including Malta, taken by German photographer Uwe Ommer.

In a ceremony just before the initial opening, William Grech, project co-ordinator for Malta, said that this exhibition was the result of a co-ordinated effort between different non-governmental organisations forming an international consortium.

Both singer Ira Losco, as well as musician Renzo Spiteri, talked about the fact that diversity has been the main factor behind their musical expression and development and had provided an opportunity to broaden their musical horizons.

Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina said the main theme behind the exhibition rested on diversity and the concept of family. She said families were living examples of diversity, but despite this women, men, children discovered harmonious ways of living together.

"We have a challenge in front of us: that of helping the family become more of a platform for a culture of diversity and equal opportunity," she said.

This exhibition will remain open till October 1, when it will move to the Mediterranean Conference Centre in conjunction with the Voices concerts till October 15. The exhibition will then move to the Valletta Waterfront till the end of that month.

The project is funded by the European Union and sponsored locally by the Vodafone Foundation.
