It seemed that Dr Ray Bondin, executive co-ordinator, Cottonera Rehabilitation Project, took the opportunity to make it clear to the Vittoriosani that most of the upgrading was done by the CRP and not by the local council (The Sunday Times, September 10).

I do not want to go into the merits of the case. However, on behalf of the people of Vittoriosa, I thank him and the CRP and all those who helped and are still working hard for the improvement of this historical city. The fact that in the past there was no negative reaction was that only few weeks ago the official plans and models were made public.

I cannot imagine the "enormous tourist boost" this copy of the watchtower can generate. I am sure that the tourist problem will not be solved by the rebuilding of the watchtower. In Vittoriosa original buildings still exist - not even these are properly promoted as tourist attractions.

Dr Bondin's letter further confirmed my doubts regarding the rebuilding the tower, especially with the news that the watch tower will not be a replica of the original...
