A public officer at the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday filed a libel suit against local news website maltastar.com.

In his suit Robert Cutajar made reference to an article entitled "Lm500 allegedly paid to PN employee for job" written by journalist Kurt Farrugia and posted on the site on Monday.

The article made reference to a court case in which a woman, Trisa Grima, is being charged with making a false accusation against Mr Cutajar when she knew him to be innocent.

Mr Cutajar, who is also a sports journalist with Net Television, claimed that the article contained false libellous material and was aimed at ruining or tainting his reputation.

Lawyer Joseph Zammit Maempel signed the writ.
