Maltese lace contest

A Maltese lace competition has been launched by Casa Rocca Piccola.

The competition, which is being held in conjunction with the HSBC Cares for Malta's Heritage Fund, will see the best lace maker win Lm500.

A committee composed of art historians, savants, artisans and technical experts will judge the entries. Consideration will be given to originality of design, technical skill adapted to the designed item, the presentation and the relationship of the lace to the culture, history and traditions of the islands.

The deadline for applications is October 31 at noon while the deadline for hand-made, contemporary bobbin lace to reach Casa Rocca Piccola, is next May 26 at noon. The prize-winning ceremony will be held at Casa Rocca Piccola the following month.

Information and application forms can be obtained by logging onto www.hsbc.com.mt/community or from Anna Grech at Casa Rocca Bookshop at 74, Republic Street, Valletta.
