Second highest catch of new designer drug

The seizure of over 50,000 mCPP tablets by Maltese police ranks the second highest catch of this drug in Europe, The Times has learnt.

It was topped by Ireland where some 125,000 pills were found.

This psychoactive drug, including its effects and repercussions, is currently being discussed by the EU's European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction.

Until now the designer drug mCPP has been found in 20 European countries.

Many mCPP seized tablets are off-white with multicoloured spots while others bear a logo such as the Rolls Royce, Three links, Lacoste or Versace logos.

The use of logos indicates that mCPP is sold in the user environment as ecstasy. Overdoses from the excessive consumption of the drug have been registered.
