Trees block visibility

I have been browsing with interest the various comments about the removal of the trees at Castille Place, Valletta and would like to offer my own case for their removal.

First of all I do not have anything against trees, but I must say that these trees are an unwelcome sight for any tourist, and obstruct the magnificence of the Castille Palace which deserves its own area by right.

As a builder training to be an architect I can also confirm that the trees' large roots may interfere with the palace's structure and surrounding structures. Placement of vegetation around historic buildings is to be considered thoroughly in the trade.

A greater concern, arising from an incident last year, is that the trees actually cause obstruction of view to traffic entering a busy roundabout. At a time when the Malta brand is at stake, it makes sense that our drivers have the safest possible roads.
