Three Valletta men were yesterday charged with injuring a Marsa supporter and assaulting police during the Victory Day regatta on Friday.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard Valletta supporters Jesmar Caruana, 42, Christopher Micallef, 30, and Dieter Dalli, 22, plead not guilty to forming part of a group that assaulted and threatened police officers and disobeyed police in Floriana at about 6 p.m.

They were also charged with slightly injuring Marsa supporter Dominic Andrew Spencer and damaging his spectacles. Mr Micallef and Mr Dalli alone were also charged with forming part of a group of over 10 people and causing damage to chairs and a vending machine at Floriana's Vilhena band club.

The three men were granted bail against a Lm400 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm1,000 each.

Police Inspectors Pierre Micallef-Grimaud and Alfred Mallia prosecuted.

Lawyers Malcolm Mifsud, Paul Borg Olivier and Roberto Montalto appeared for the men.
