Referee threat: A match involving Argentine champions Boca Juniors was abandoned at half-time on Sunday amid allegations the referee had been threatened by officials of home team Gimnasia La Plata. Gimnasia president Juan Jose Munoz told Argentine television he had spoken to the referee but denied making any threats. Gimnasia were winning 1-0 with a penalty converted by Uruguayan striker Santiago Silva in the 29th minute. Referee Daniel Gimenez did not speak to the media.

Gil Vicente: Gil Vicente have been deducted six points for failing to turn up for their second division Inmatch against Feirense. Their failure to fulfil the fixture was interpreted by media as a protest against the Portuguese Federation's decision to relegate the team from the Premier League last season for using an ineligible player, Mateus.

Anichebe: Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been called up to play for Nigeria's under-20 team as the country attempt to beat England to the talented teenager's international future. Anichebe had been invited to play in an African youth championship qualifier against Rwanda on Sept. 30.

Van Nistelrooy: Ruud van Nistelrooy was left rueing missed chances despite getting off the mark for his new club Real Madrid with a hat-trick in Sunday's 4-1 victory at Levante. "It was a good day and an important win because we have a tough game against Lyon in the Champions League on Wednesday (tomorrow)," he said. "We have gained confidence but I missed a penalty, which is really bad, and the keeper stopped another good chance of mine."

Youngest Player: Nicolas Millan became the youngest player to play in the Chilean championship when he made his professional debut for Colo Colo at the age of 14 on Sunday. Millan came on as a substitute in the match at Santiago Wanderers.
