The General Workers' Union has condemned what it termed the "extra pressure" it said Air Malta was piling on its employees to make them accept an early retirement scheme.

The workers had already made the necessary sacrifices when they had accepted a memorandum of understanding, the union said in a statement.

The union felt the added pressure was "unjust" and insisted that the workers should be free to decide their best interests for themselves.

The GWU is tomorrow organising a meeting for its Air Malta employee members to discuss the latest developments and give out important information, it said.
