Valletta and its suburb Floriana are the subject of a new travel guide by John Manduca. This is the fourth in the series, the other guides having been on Malta and Gozo, Mdina and Rabat and The Three Cities.
The Guide To The City of Valletta And Floriana is the first of its kind. Although there are many guidebooks on Malta and Gozo, there is at present none devoted to the capital city, a World Heritage Site, and to Floriana. The book is readable and informative and should prove more than useful to the discerning visitor to our capital.
The Valletta guide includes a brief history, amusing anecdotes and is illustrated with some 50 exceptional colour photographs. It also carries 20 delightful watercolour sketches by Cecily Napier.
There are six clear maps and plans of Malta, Valletta, Floriana, the Co-Cathedral of St John, archaeological sites and temples and bus routes.
Mr Manduca has also edited and written an incisive introduction to the Bonham Carter Diaries, 1936-1942. He was the founder editor of Treasures of Malta (A Patrimonju publication) and was awarded the Gold Award 2003 and an award for Cultural Tourism in 2005 by the Institute of Maltese Journalists.
The new guide is published by Allied Publications, printed by Progress Press Co. Ltd. and distributed by Allied Retail and Commercial Company Ltd.
