During the summer months it has become customary to see the Education Minister announce and inaugurate new schools, plans for new schools, improvements to existing schools etc. This is all very well and good.

However, I fail to understand why all the major projects are taking place in the south of the country: The new ultra modern and luxurious St Benedict School in Kirkop, the new school that is being built in Tal-Handaq, the new school being built in Cospicua, the improvements being carried out to the school in Safi, the beautiful multi-purpose hall being built in the Siggiewi school, the extension constructed at the Marsacala school, the magnificent sports centre in Vittoriosa...

Does the Minister know that there exists another population in the centre of the country that has various dire needs as well? I would like to inform him that the population of Sliema, St Julians, Swieqi and Pembroke are in desperate need of indoor sports facilities besides various other requirements and improvements. It is simply unfair. Don't we deserve some attention and a trickle of the resources being spent? Why is it that we are being ignored?

I honestly hope that things will change rapidly and that the scales will be balanced. Our population deserves better.
