The University of the Third Age (U3E), as part of the European Centre of Gerontology at the University of Malta, and the Seniors College, as part of the Department of Adult Education and Vocational Training at the University of Technology of Chemnitz, Germany, earlier this year signed a "senior learning partnership".
The objectives are to promote dialogue and co-operation between the two institutions, exchange cultural knowledge of the two countries, and organise various learning activities.
Representatives of both universities, responsible for the framework of a programme and its implementation, proposed projects and visits in the two countries. The German group visited Malta between April 10 and 18.
An English course was conducted in the Sliema hotel where the group stayed, and a sightseeing programme was arranged for the visitors. U3E members attended a very interesting presentation by Chemnitz Seniors at their hotel, during which historical and contemporary information about the two countries was exchanged.
A return visit by U3E members to Chemnitz is being organised between October 17 and 24. A full educational and cultural programme has been prepared for the U3E members who would like to participate.
