The Malta Judo Federation (MJF) enjoy a good reputation within the European Judo Union (EJU) not only because the Office of the Union has been based on our islands since 2004 but also for the successful organisation of all assignments entrusted to the federation.
Over the past five years, Malta was the venue for the Education and Medical Seminar during which a revolutionary course was developed in collaboration with the Bath University.
The course, the Foundation Degree in Science for Judo Coaches, is also held in conjunction with the EJU.
Last year, the Administration course was added to that of Education. It was so successful that this year two separate seminars were held.
The seminars, held in Marsascala, saw the participation of 60 delegates from 26 countries.
The items on the agenda were various but the main topics discussed were the New Handbook, the 2007 calendar, the Electronic Registration System and the Post Graduate Degree for Sport Administrators at Bath University.
Discussions on updates from WADA, Therapeutic Use Exemptions, Injuries Statistics, Asthma and Competitive Judo for Veterans, were also held.
The MJF is now bidding to host more ambitious events. As a start, the Cadets' European Championships will take place in Malta next year.
This activity is expected to attract around 1,000 participants from 35 countries.
The MJF is also in the process of submitting an application to organise the 2007 European Kata Championships.
MJF training for children will be held regularly on Saturdays at St Aloysius College starting from September 23. One may obtain more details by phoning 21-319944.
