Valencia midfielder David Albelda will miss his side's opening Champions League Group D match against Olympiakos after fracturing his cheekbone during Spain's 3-2 defeat against Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

The Primera Liga club said the 29-year-old would undergo a minor operation and would be unable to train for around two weeks.

Valencia will also be without Ruben Baraja, who has a thigh muscle tear, and are likely to be missing Asier del Horno who is recovering from a muscle injury.

Valencia are away at Atletico Madrid in the Liga tomorrow.
