A group of local track and field athletes will be travelling to the Czech Republic this month to participate in an international meeting which is specifically meant to motivate young and promising athletes whose ages vary from 12 to 15.
The meeting in Brno, with the participation of more than 700 athletes, is being held between September 20 and 21.
The Malta Amateur Athletics Association (MAAA) representatives will be taking part in the 60m, 300m, 600m, 1,500m, long jump, and 4x60m events.
In a short statement, the association said it gives a lot of importance to the development of athletics and each year they try to find a competition of the right level for the Maltese.
The girls squad includes Ingrid Abela, Jana Pace Cocks, Rebecca Farrugia, Julie A. Grech, Dorianne Micallef, Maria Mizzi, Rebecca Sare, Maria Sciberras, Tamara Vella, Francesca Xuereb, Martina Xuereb and Jasmine Zammit.
Jeremy Borg, Sacha Dunlop, Ezekiel Micallef, Michael Sullivan and Andrew Cassar Torregiani will be in the boys' team.
The meeting is an EU-assisted project which also has the support and approval of the European Athletic Association Tania Xuereb, an MAAA council member, will be the team leader.
