Mepa caseload

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority determined 639 applications in August and received 660 new applications, with the net pending caseload at the end of the month standing at 4,545.

The authority processed 78 notifications of development, which do not require a formal application. Eighty-tree stop and enforcement notices were issued, 52 in Malta and 31 in Gozo.

In the same month, 72 enforcement cases were closed, 41 in Malta and 31 in Gozo. Forty-five enforcement cases were sanctioned and another 20 cases were resolved when owners removed illegal development and complied with the enforcement notice. Six enforcement cases were withdrawn. Another case was also closed following payment due for direct action carried out in previous years.

The complaints office received 21 cases that were resolved without the need of enforcement action, since owners complied with instructions given by Mepa enforcement officers.
