Architect and urban planner Dr Conrad Thake has contributed a paper on Valletta in the book Spatial Planning and Urban Development in the New EU Member States, (edited: Uwe Altrock, Simon Guntner, Sandra Huning, Deike Peters), published by the prestigious academic press, Ashgate Publishing Limited.

The book, the latest volume in Urban and regional planning and development series, is a compilation of contributions by various academics and practitioners focusing on diverse spatial planning experiences within the ten new member states of the EU.

Architect Thake's paper, entitled "Valletta: reinventing the 'city of the Order for the 21st century'," focuses on the multi-faceted challenges that the historic city is experiencing as it seeks to regenerate itself in response to contemporary social and economic aspirations while maintaining its historic authenticity.
