In his regular feature, Alan Deidun (The Sunday Times, August 27) claimed that "the likes of Michael Falzon" had argued in favour of the extension of the development zones "on the grounds of Malta's population density and the need for affordable housing for newly-weds, etc."

I did nothing of the sort.

What I actually wrote was that bandying about the statistic that the percentage of urbanised land in Malta is more than four times the EU average as part of the campaign against the rationalisation of the development boundaries was not on, when one also considers that the population density (in persons per square kilometre) in Malta is over ten times the EU average.

And it was another Michael Falzon who - albeit in a different context - promised the utopia of "affordable housing" for newly-weds, whatever that means.
