Three young men were yesterday charged with holding a man against his will and one of the accused, an 18-year-old, was also charged with punching and kicking the man in the face.

Waylon Micallef, 18, Aaron Vella, 20, and his 18-year-old brother Joseph - all from Birkirkara - were charged with holding Mario Saliba against his will in Marsascala on Tuesday at about 8.30 a.m.

Mr Micallef was further charged with seriously injuring Mr Saliba in the face and threatening to kill him while Aaron Vella was charged with trying to cause serious injuries to another man, Reuben Scicluna. The three pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against them.

Magistrate Dennis Montebello heard how the alleged incident happened while the men were at work and, not being satisfied that the accused would not approach the victims, the magistrate ordered they be remanded in custody at this stage.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.
