Apparently TV stations seem to forget that during the summer season people still stay at home in order to relax and protect themselves from the horrid sun. The stations prefer selling their air time to teleshopping companies that pester viewers with their products, from a pair of cheap binoculars to a vacation holiday in Tunisia. Where are we heading?
Anyway, the usual answer would be that they are preparing for their autumn schedule which I am sure will be characterised by terrible sets and the usual magazine programmes among others.
One programme which kicked off this summer is Misrah Kola. Starting with a jingle in which the name is written in a wrong way (seems the production team does not possess software for Maltese fonts), this programme is aimed at young children who can spend one hour in front of their "own" TV sets enjoying such a programme. Is this the type of programme our young ones should be watching? It is amusing, yet it does not educate. Such programmes should be specially designed by individuals with professional knowledge of pedagogy.
I believe that the commissioner responsible for children should start sponsoring a TV programme designed for children. By doing this, a child would spend an hour of quality time enjoying him/herself and learning something good and not something which may mislead him and confuse his thoughts.
