James Hayter kept his appointment for League One club Bournemouth and for the fourth successive season scored the first goal in the league for the Cherries.

The fans had to wait until the side's third game of the campaign, away at Leyton Orient, to see Hayter banging in the club's first goal of 2006/07.

Three players kept their routine to open their club's scoring account for the third year running. These are: Everton's Johnson (previously for Crystal Palace), Bradford's Windass and MK Dons' McLeod.

Fifteen players (last season 12) repeated the previous term's feat to become their team's earliest scorers in the league for at least two occasions.

The other 11 not mentioned are: Barton (Manchester City), D. Bent (Charlton), Bullock (Hartlepool), Crosby (Scunthorpe), Davis (Bolton), Forster (Ipswich), Healy (Leeds), M. Jones (Wrexham), Mooney (Wycome), Nugent (Preston), Odejayi (Cheltenham).

Attackers found the comfort of the club's ground more adaptable to score and 57 of the initial nettings were recorded at home and the remaining 35 away.

The earliest goal this season came after three minutes from Paul Murray of Carlisle. In the Premiership, Louis Saha is the first goal poacher, netting after seven minutes for Manchester United.
