The Malta Statistics Authority has appointed Gordon Cordina as director general of the National Statistics Office.

Dr Cordina is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and University of Malta. Between 1992 and 2001, he was an economist at the Central Bank of Malta. Subsequently he lectured at the Department of Economics at the University of Malta.

His research publications, carried in international and local journals, cover macro-econometric models and the economics of small states.

He recently served as an economic adviser to the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development and to the Central Bank of Malta.

Dr Cordina, 34, is married with two children.
