As far as my family and large circle of friends are concerned, Malta is the nicest, friendliest, best place on earth to holiday. I and my daughter and her family have just returned (my 40th holiday) from our holiday in Bugibba this year which was spoilt by hoards of unsupervised, loud, rude, rough students who virtually took over the complex.
They climbed over balconies, through our windows, shouted and banged on doors throughout the night, with reception and the managers giving them priority in all ways which meant we had to wait sometimes for half an hour for our keys. They were too rough in the pool areas to allow young children to swim.
I very much doubt my family and friends will visit Malta again and I feel I cannot, as in the past, recommend a hotel in case they have students there.
It would have been bearable if management and the supposed leaders had been capable of dealing with the situations as they arose and the students had been kept to one part of the hotel so that holiday-makers (who had to pay quite a lot of money for their holiday) were able to sleep at night and not worry about them trying to get into the wrong rooms.
Surely we could be told when booking our holiday where the students will be so we can be given the option of whether we wish to stay in a hostel/hotel or not. And surely they could be better supervised and all given keys so they do not have to shout and bang on doors throughout the night when they arrive back at the complex/hotel mostly in a drunken/high state.
Malta is a wonderful country and its people are the best. It is such as shame that this is happening. So many people will never risk returning to the island.
