Leisel Jones broke her own world record in the 100 metres breaststroke in the final of the Australian short-course (25-metre pool) championships yesterday. Jones posted a time of one minute 03.86 seconds to better her swim in Sunday's semi-final by 0.26 seconds.

American Tara Kirk set the previous world record of 1:04.79 in 2004.

Jones also holds the long-course (50-metre pool) record for the 100m and 200m breaststroke and is the world champion over both distances.

Meanwhile, Libby Lenton broke the world record in the short course 100m butterfly with a time of 55.95 seconds. Lenton finished 0.71 seconds ahead of fellow Australian Jessicah Schipper to better the previous mark of 56.34 set by American Nathalie Coughlin in 2002.
