The flag of Malta is white and red. The correct way to describe a flag is by stating the colour at the hoist, i.e. nearest the pole, first. If the flag is divided horizontally then this fact must be stated and the top colour given first. Two examples of this are Monaco (Horizontally, Red and White and Poland horizontally, White and Red.) It is understood that if the word horizontal is not used then the flag is divided vertically. There have been many letters to The Times, in the past, concerning the flag flying above the main gate of Mdina, as this flag does not have the George Cross, since it is the flag of Mdina and not Malta. If the George Cross is removed from the national flag then some means of differentiating it will need to be found.

Will this cause as much discussion as the Euro coin I wonder? Perhaps the Maltese Cross?
