Champions New Zealand beat the Springboks 45-26 in their Tri-nations test yesterday to register their first win in South Africa since 2003.

Despite losing full-back Leon Macdonald and prop Greg Somerville to injuries in the opening stages, the All Blacks clawed their way back into the match via the lethal boot of flyhalf Dan Carter.

He kicked three first-half penalties and his deft chip set up prop Neemia Tialata's try. The All Blacks led 16-11 at half-time.
