Two young men are being remanded in custody after they were arrested by the police following reports that they had stolen items from a beach in Sliema, the police said.

The police were informed yesterday afternoon at about 2.45 that two young people had just nicked some bags from a beach in Sliema and ran off on a motorcycle.

After a search in the neighbourhood, the police managed to spot the two near Manoel Island in Gzira.

The alleged thieves were trailed to Msida where they were arrested when they tried to flee the police.

Following investigations, the police found that the two men aged 21 and 22 had in fact just stolen some bags and other items. The motorcycle had been also stolen yesterday but from Zabbar.
