Police investigating the stabbing of three teenage girls as they got off a bus in the small seaside town of Bridport in Dorset said yesterday they had arrested a 20-year-old man.

The girls aged 14, 15 and 17 were attacked shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday after an argument on the bus between them and the man, Dorset police said.

A police spokeswoman said the man had been arrested in neighbouring east Devon.

"This was a sustained and frenzied attack," Chief Inspector Nick Maton told a news conference earlier in the day.
