The number of reported road accidents in the second quarter of this year reached 3,755, a decrease of 397 over the same period last year, the National Statistics Office reported yesterday.
There was one fatality among the 314 reported casualties, of which 71.3 per cent involved passenger cars and 15.9 per cent motorcycles. There were 87 casualties in the 15-24 age group, 71 of them being passengers in cars. The number of persons who were slightly injured totalled 244, 141 being males. In the 25-39 and 15-24 age groups, 42 and 39 males respectively suffered slight injuries. The number of injured females in the same age groups reached 28 and 26 respectively.
The number of persons sustaining grievous injuries totalled 69.
In the quarter under review, 163, or 51.9 per cent, of the reported casualties occurred between Friday and Sunday, including the only fatality which occurred on a Friday.
