May I refer to the opinion Of Theatrical Antics by Berta Sullivan (August 14).

Although The Times does not say so, Ms Sullivan happens to work as personal assistant to the general secretary of the Nationalist Party, Joe Saliba, (or something to that effect).

In her article, Ms Sullivan expressed outrage at Labour MP Justyne Caruana for "hitting out... against journalists" during the MLP's recent general conference in Gozo. Ms Sullivan claimed that Dr Caruana acted "in a calculated if not premeditated fashion" (?) against PN media journalists.

I have no brief to defend Dr Caruana. I happen to be a journalist employed by Super One, and am on many occasions detailed to cover the media appearances of Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi. I know Ms Sullivan from her presence at some of these occasions.

One occasion I particularly recall happened at a PN activity addressed by Dr Gonzi at the San Gwann PN club where, following a number of requests I had made, I was allowed to interview Dr Gonzi. Ms Sullivan, along with Mr Saliba, was in attendance. At one stage, Mr Saliba and/or Ms Sullivan decided my questions were no longer welcome and tried their best to stop the interview and shove me aside. To be fair, the Prime Minister seemed willing to continue with the interview.

It ended up with Ms Sullivan, surely not "on-the-spur-of-the-moment-thingy", among much yelling and baying, placing her hand in front of the camera that was being used to film the interview. The "people" with her pushed me against a sofa. They then hustled me and the cameraman out of the room. All this is recorded on film.

The point of my letter is this: Who does Ms Sullivan think she's fooling with her crocodile cries of "disgraceful"?

Some people should grow up. They cannot expect to benefit forever from standards based on two weights, two measures.
