The protest lodged by Sliema ASC against the result of Saturday's league match against San Giljan, which finished 10-all and meant the Blues were out of the running for the championship, was not upheld yesterday by the ASA Protests Board.

Sliema contended there was a technical error committed by the referees and they asked for the match to be replayed. However, their complaint was over-ruled.

More woes were to follow for Sliema as the ASA ruled that Tibor Benedek's two-match suspension, following his sending-off for brutality, was to stand.

Moreover, Edward Aquilina's season could be over as he was handed a 15-day suspension and fined for insulting ASA officials.

The waterpolo season comes to a close on September 2 with the KO finals.

The other Sliema player sent off without replacement in the match against San Giljan, Michael Rizzo, escaped the two-match ban but was handed a Lm30 fine.

With regards to the protest, the 10-10 result is to stand, confirming Neptunes as champions. But, Sliema ASC can appeal against the disciplinary measures handed to their three players.
