I am totally in favour of removing the trees from Castille Square.

I have been to many beautiful piazzas and admired many historical buildings around Europe, and not once did I see just one tree hindering the beauty of the building. Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square both in London; the Duomo in Milan, Piazza San Marco in Venice, St Stephanplatz and Radhaus in Vienna, the Mdina cathedral (in Malta), Vatican square... well actually the list is endless.

I suggest that all trees close to buildings in historic Valletta be removed. Don't get me wrong, I am very sensitive to our environment and these same trees could very well embellish any other place. I also care very much about our beautiful city. I am very proud to say I was born there.

Valletta boasts of three beautiful gardens, namely The Upper and Lower Barakka Gardens and Hastings. These same trees could very well be replanted in any of these gardens.

Valletta is a proud city and it deserves nothing but the best. It is also heartening to learn that finally some belated care is being taken of it.

Let us make Valletta majestic once again.
