The Ramla Bay Sailing Weekend will be organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC), in conjunction with the Malta Sailing Federation, between September 1 and 3. The organisers will be aided by the sponsorship of Marsovin and the backing of Ramla Bay Resort.
Speaking during a press conference earlier this week, RMYC Commodore Georges Bonello Du Puis spoke of the importance of the upcoming sailing weekend.
"Besides being an excellent opportunity for young sailors to take part with their dinghies, the sailing weekend is also a fund-raising event for the Malta Sailing Federation's Youth Training Programme," he said.
The Commodore insisted that notwithstanding this priority, soon there will be a need to start the yacht club's own fund-raising, as time is imminent for the signing of an agreement between the government and RMYC.
After several years of negotiations, a deal will shortly be reached whereby the government will hand over the lease of a new site, situated at the north shore of Manoel Island, to the club where a new headquarters will be established.
The sponsors' representatives, stressed the need for their continued participation in helping sailing in Malta both now and in future as they have done in past years to their satisfaction.
