The Maltese made 105,414 trips abroad by air and sea in the first six months of this year, an increase of 7.6 per cent over the same period last year, according to National Statistics Office figures released yesterday.

The most frequent destination was Italy, accounting for 30.9 per cent of trips.

At 62.2 per cent, there were many more male passengers than female.

In June alone, the number of outbound passengers increased by 9.6 per cent over the same month last year, to 22,211.

More than 75 per cent of the increase came from departures by sea (catamaran), the majority being same-day visitors, the NSO said.
